The Place Where I'm From

Dear readers,

Welcome to my blog and to my first blog post. My name is Giada Valenti and I was born in Portogruaro, a city near Venice. I'm a professional singer and songwriter, and after having lived and worked in Holland for a few years and in London, I have now a second home in NYC!!
I'm a made in Italy exported to America. The question is how much of Portogruaro/Venice is still with me?
Let me introduce you to the place where I'm from: Venice (Italian: Venezia) is a city in northern Italy, the capital of the region Veneto.

The city historically was an independent nation. Venice has been known as the "La Dominante", "Serenissima", "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Bridges", and "The City of Light". Luigi Barzini, of the The New York Times, described it as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man". Venice has also been described as being one of Europe's most romantic cities.
Here it’s something I have inherited from my Venice: I'm a romantic person and my music is all about romance and love!!

The city of Venice stretches across 118 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. The saltwater lagoon stretches along the shoreline between the mouths of the Po(south) and the Piave (north) Rivers.

The Republic of Venice was a major maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, as well as a very important center of commerce (especially silk, grain and spice trade) .Venice is also famous for its musical, particularly operatic, history, and its most famous son in this field is Antonio Vivaldi.

Here we go another thing I have inherited from my Venice: my love for music.
Music is my life!!
I grew up surrounded by beautiful music and romantic scenery and those are still the basic of my life!! My DNA is music and romance!!
Benvenuti nel mio blog: you will find here every week stories related to my life in Italy and my life as an Italian in NYC, my music adventures all over the world. I will take you back stage at my shows to meet my team and my musicians, you will hear all about the challenges and the joy of being an entertainer, you will hear about the wonderful people I get to meet, the wonderful places I get to see. And I will share with you my favorites places in Italy and the USA, recipes of my favorites food and I will take you to my favorites restaurants, hotel and bar in Italy, in NYC and the world.
I’m Giada Valenti an Italian woman with an 100% Italian DNA who loves music, romance and to travel the world!! Welcome on board!!

Love,
Giada

  1. Hi Giada,
We are friends on Facebook and I saw you perform with Patrizio Buanne at the Sergio Franchi concert 2 years ago. You do have a beautiful voice. I also was born and grew up in Italy, but in a much smaller "paese", Villa Santa Lucia in the Abruzzo region. I love everything Italian and am very proud of my heritage. As they say in Italy, "in bocca al lupo" with your new blog, your career, your travels and everything you undertake.

  3. Dear Giada: We are friends on Facebook. I was glad to read that you are Venetian as Venice is my most favorite place in the world. I almost always land there and stay awhile; then have my mother's relatives pick me up and go to Longarone to visit. I'm sure you have knowledge of the tragedy in Longarone, Have you ever read any of the books by Donna Leon who writes about Commissario Brunetti in Venice. They are good and quick reads.
